An event entitled “Calls for Peace in Azerbaijani Poetry” was held at Baku Eurasian University (BAAU) within the framework of “SDG Week”

On April 30, 2025, Baku Eurasian University (BEU) hosted a literary-artistic event titled “Calls for Peace in Azerbaijani Poetry” as part of “SDG Week,” organized by the Department of Azerbaijani and World Literature in align with UN’s SDG 16 Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions

 In her opening speech, the Head of the Department, Professor Elmira Mammadova-Kekech, emphasized the significance of peace in the modern world, underlining that peace, justice, and strong institutions are vital for sustainable development. She highlighted that peace is not simply the absence of war, but the presence of social justice, rule of law, and inclusive governance that guarantees human rights, democratic rights.

In line with the event's program, students presented their works. Nazrin Ganjali, a first-year student of Azerbaijani Language and Literature at the Faculty of Philology, presented an essay on the theme “War” exploring the long-term effects of organized violence, nationalism, and authoritarianism on vulnerable communities. Gunay Jafarova, a third-year student of the same specialty, presented her essay entitled “Peace” focusing on key topics such as a call for ecojustice and respect for indigenous rights and self-determination.

Following the student presentations, Associate Professor Afsana Naghiyeva from the Department of Azerbaijani and World Literature delivered a lecture on “Peace in World Literature,” and Senior Laboratory Assistant Sitara Vusal presented on “Peace in Azerbaijani Literature.” The lectures covered issues such as injustice, exploitation, and the impact of armed conflict and trafficking on communities, zero tolerance for corruption and bribery.

At the conclusion of the event, discussions were conducted among participants, and letters of appreciation were presented to the students and staff who contributed to the event.
