On April 1, 2026, within the framework of the Azerbaijan Urban Campaign, ahead of the 13th session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13), and dedicated to the World Zero Waste Day, an academic seminar titled “Zero Waste: From Responsibility to Action” was held at Baku Eurasian University (BAAU).
In the opening speech, the Vice-Rector for International Relations of the university, Associate Professor Sevda Rzayeva, spoke about the growing importance of the zero-waste approach in the modern era and emphasized the need to strengthen environmental responsibility.
During the seminar, experts representing various fields delivered presentations on relevant topics. Tukezban Agababayeva, Secretary of the Public Council under the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Azerbaijan and Chair of the EcoHub Public Union for Supporting Environmental Initiatives, spoke on “Zero Waste: Environmental Behavior in Corporate and Public Environment,” highlighting the importance of forming appropriate behavioral models for sustainable development.
Elnur Aliyev, representative of “Clean City (Təmiz Şəhər)” OJSC, as well as Aygun Ismayilova, Konul Abbasova, and Ulker Safarli from Baku Eurasian University, delivered presentations on topics including the circular economy model in waste management, the zero-waste approach in future cities, and environmental responsibility in tourism.
Within the seminar, extensive discussions were held on the implementation of zero-waste principles, raising environmental awareness, and developing sustainable urban environment.
The event was met with great interest from participants and concluded with interactive discussions.
