On March 13, in recognition of World Water Day (March 22), Baku Eurasian University (BAAU) hosted a dedicated event organized by the Department of Business and Management. The gathering brought together academic and administrative staff, along with students, to explore critical themes surrounding water sustainability and climate change.

The event was made fully accessible to the public, promoting community engagement and inclusivity.

At the opening of the event, the Head of the Department of Business and Management at Baku Eurasian University (BAAU), Assoc. Prof. Matanat Gurbanova, discussed the importance of water for both the environment and human life. She emphasized the life-sustaining role of water within the hydrological cycle and its increasing vulnerability due to climate impacts such as drought, desertification, and groundwater depletion. She reiterated the UN’s recognition of World Water Day since 1993 and stressed the importance of water education, hygiene, and sanitation as fundamental human rights, particularly in addressing issues such as open defecation, untreated wastewater, and access to latrines.

Following the opening speech, and in accordance with the event's program, Dr. Konul Gafarbeyli, the Head of the Soil Agroecology and Planning Laboratory at the Institute of Soil Science and Agrochemistry of the Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan, delivered a presentation on the topic "National Strategy for the Efficient Use of Water Resources". Dr. Gafarbeyli addressed key issues such as water resource protection, climate change, global warming, water scarcity, and the development of an ecological worldview. She also discussed the national and international strategies being implemented in these areas.

Next, third-year students from the BAAU Tourism Management Department, Fatima Agaliyeva, Eljan Khudiyev, and Amin Safarov, delivered a presentation on "International Experience in the Use of Water Resources". The students provided insights into effective water management models implemented globally and discussed their potential applications in Azerbaijan. The students explored solutions like water filtration, sustainable sewage treatment, and integrated water efficiency policies that could be adapted to Azerbaijan's arid regions and areas affected by climate scenarios involving water stress.

The event was well received by the participants. The event underscored the interconnectedness of climate action and clean water access as essential pillars of sustainable development.

It is important to note that the theme of the event is closely aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Specifically, the topics of water resource protection and climate change adaptation, as part of the UN SDG 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation) and SDG 13 (Combating Climate Change), were central focuses of the event.
