Baku Eurasian University (BAAU) organized a scientific-practical event on the topic “Children’s Rights: Between Law and Reality” through the Department of General Studies, highlighting the role of strong institutions and the rule of law in promoting peace and social justice.
At the opening of the event, the university’s Vice-Rector for International Relations, Associate Professor Sevda Rzayeva, emphasized that the protection of children’s rights is a cornerstone of governance, social justice, and human rights, noting its relevance to preventing exploitation, trafficking, and other forms of violence against children.
Following the opening, Associate Professor Sevil Bahramova, Head of the Department of General Studies, delivered a presentation titled “Protection of Children’s Rights – The Foundation of a Just Future,” discussing the responsibilities of families, educational institutions, and society in ensuring democratic rights, legal safeguards, and social change that foster equity and protection for all children.
Senior Lecturer Natiq Hasanov presented on “International Mechanisms for the Protection of Children’s Rights and Azerbaijan’s Experience,” highlighting the role of global institutions, international legal systems, and frameworks like UNDRIP in advancing human rights, self-determination, and indigenous rights in the context of child protection.
Professor Mais Aliyev of Baku State University spoke on “Legal Regulation of Children’s Social Protection,” drawing attention to the interconnection between social welfare, judicial institutions, and equitable governance, as well as the importance of combating corruption, injustice, and illicit practices that undermine children’s well-being.
Additionally, Associate Professor Ajdar Yunusov and Lecturer Aysu Nazar from the Department of Social and Political Sciences presented on “Protection of Children’s Rights within National Legislation,” emphasizing the role of the legal system in preventing torture, violence, and exploitation, while ensuring children’s access to justice and democratic rights. Lecturer Gunel Jafarova discussed “State Measures for the Protection of Children’s Rights,” providing insights into government programs, ecojustice initiatives, and social projects aimed at safeguarding vulnerable populations.
The event was organized with aligning SDG 16 PEACE, JUSTICE & STRONG INSTITUTIONS. The seminar continued with interactive discussions, where participants explored topics such as the rule of law, social justice, governance reforms, and the promotion of peace, while exchanging ideas on preventing authoritarian practices, organized crime, and exploitation. The session concluded with commemorative photographs, reflecting a commitment to advancing justice, equity, and institutional accountability in child protection.
