Goal 4: Quality Education

Sustainable Development Goal 4 is about quality education and is among the 17 Sustainable Development Goals established by the United Nations in September 2015. The full title of SDG 4 is "Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all". SDG 4 aims to provide children and young people with quality and easy access to education plus other learning opportunities. One of its targets is to achieve universal literacy and numeracy. A major component in acquiring knowledge and valuable skills in the learning environment. Hence, the urgent need to build more educational facilities and also upgrade the present ones to provide safe, inclusive, and effective learning environments for all.

BAAU as a body provides free access to educational resources for those not studying at the university, e.g. computers, library, online courses, access to lectures, etc.

BAAU provides non-university individuals with access to free educational resources through both online and face-to-face platforms. These resources include the university computers, library, online courses and access to lectures.

To contribute to the development of society, BAAU has started public training on topics. Open to the public, these training seminars are organised on a wide range of topics and on the ZOOM platform, showing the interest of various age groups.

The Arabic Studies Center at Baku Eurasian University has been using interactive methods to boost interest in Arabic language learning, offering free educational resources to both students and non-students. Known for its personalised approach, the Center helps each student learn at their own pace, promoting language immersion and quicker absorption.

Regular online courses, available for beginners and advanced learners, are taught by local and foreign instructors who also introduce students to Arabic-speaking cultures. Offline courses are offered for Baku residents, while online options are available for those in other regions, making learning accessible to all.

Baku Eurasian University hosted a public seminar titled "Climate Change and its Social Effects" as part of COP 29, organised by the Department of Humanities and Regional Studies. Mutallim Rahimov, Dean of the Faculty of Regional Studies and Economics, delivered the opening speech, covering the ecological, economic, social, and cultural impacts of climate change and mitigation strategies.

Presentations by Faraim Akbarov from the Ministry of Agriculture, ecology expert Gulendam Sharifzadeh, and climate specialist Ayan Shamchiyeva explored ecosystem disruptions, including water resources, biodiversity loss, and rising natural disasters, emphasising the role of each citizen in combating environmental issues. The interactive seminar facilitated idea exchange with the audience.

BAAU is committed to fostering lifelong learning and community development through diverse certification programs that integrate multiple disciplines, aimed at enhancing both professional and personal skills. These programs not only raise the educational standards of the public but also equip participants with relevant competencies to advance in their careers and adapt to an evolving job market.

In 2024, BAAU introduced a range of free vocational training courses as part of its dedication to sustainable development goals. These courses provided participants with practical skills and specialised knowledge, empowering them to contribute more effectively to their professions and communities.

Baku Eurasian University (BEU) and Absheron Logistics Center have signed a cooperation memorandum to enhance professional development, internships, and certification opportunities. Signed by BAAU’s Rector, Associate Professor Sayavush Qasimov, and Ziya Agayev, Chairman of the Board of the Logistics Center, the memorandum enables internships, professional training for employees, joint research on logistics, and scientific discussions. The Absheron Logistics Center, operating since 2018, is Azerbaijan’s first private logistics centre with international certifications.

The Career and Internship Center at Baku Eurasian University, established in 2023, operates a Guided Mentoring Programme to support the career development of students, especially female students and employees. The program aims to help young professionals plan their careers through mentoring, coaching, and workshops tailored to participants' needs. Mentees benefit from networking opportunities, practical career advice, and skill development, while mentors can practice coaching skills and engage with future talent.

The structured program spans four months, with mentors and mentees meeting four times for approximately 60 minutes per session. Topics include exploring the job market, networking, skill identification, and reviewing progress. Meetings may be held in person or online, and the program includes mid-way and end-of-program surveys to assess outcomes.

Both mentors and mentees must maintain regular communication, prepare for meetings, and keep records of interactions. The program emphasizes a professional, voluntary relationship with clear guidelines for communication and participation.

Chimnaz Ismayilbeyli, a teacher at Baku Eurasian University, won the "Realize the Idea" competition by the Youth Foundation of Azerbaijan and led the "Teachers of the 21st Century" project, aimed at enhancing the skills of young teachers through intensive training in innovative educational methods.

The project featured sessions on inclusive education, interactive teaching methods, and practical tasks to develop empathy. Various experts, including Efsana Muradli, moderated discussions on traditional vs. modern teaching methods and teacher-student relationships. The training provided participants with effective teaching strategies, culminating in the presentation of certificates to all attendees.
