Gender Equality policy of Baku Eurasian University
The 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) reflected in the "2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development" adopted by the United Nations General Assembly in 2015 officially entered into force on January 1, 2016. According to goals, which are inclusive and universal in nature, countries are committed to "leaving no one behind" in the course of the next fifteen years. Gender Equality under the fifth goal includes several targets under the slogan "Achieving gender equality and empowering all women and girls".
Gender equality is not only one of the basic human rights, but also one of the necessary conditions for a peaceful, prosperous and sustainable world. Ensuring that girls and women have equal access to education, health services, decent work, and participation in political and economic decision-making processes can contribute to economic sustainability and benefit society and humanity in general.
The main goal of Baku Eurasian University is to prepare graduates who are competitive, highly qualified, loyal to democratic values, principles of democracy and humanism in various fields by applying training and education based on modern methods, by which University continues to contribute to society. The University places much importance on academic freedom in education and research services, regardless of gender, and upholds the principles of fairness and dignity in offering opportunities to academic, administrative personnel and students.
The following goals are planned for the successful implementation of the gender equality policy of Baku Eurasian University:
As one of the most serious issues of our time, gender equality and the protection of women's rights are discussed in seminars and conferences organized by Baku Eurasian University every year.
To achieve success and to make these successes sustainable related to this Sustainable Development Goal, BAAU closely cooperates with a number of institutions:
One of the things that Baku Eurasian University does in this direction is to conduct quarterly surveys in the direction of protecting rights within the framework of gender equality, and to be open to receive complaints and comments on a regular basis. It is exemplary that no negative cases have been encountered so far.
As an example of the considerable attention and care given to female students, the girls' dormitory cannot be underestimated. The five-story girls' dormitory, which has been running since 2022 and stands out for its high quality and modern equipment, provides female students coming from different regions of Azerbaijan with comfortable accommodation.
Gender equality means being fair in terms of the distribution of power, resources and responsibilities between women and men. Based on this principle, BAAU has zero tolerance for sexual exploitation and gender-based bias, and the preference of one gender over the other, regardless of whether it is a student or employee, is absolutely unacceptable.
In addition, sending academic, administrative staff and students to foreign countries for academic exchange programs, training and conferences, taking into account gender equality, should be noted. Every year dozens of representatives from the personnel and students take advantage of this opportunity offered by BAAU.
Besides, both female and male students actively participate in a number of trainings and events organized by the Career and Internship Center, which is considered one of the successful projects of BAAU, and they also gain valuable advice on future career directions. Because women and girls make up half of the world's population and therefore half of its potential.
Women's underrepresentation in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fields is a prominent concern in our society. Baku Eurasian University aims at encouraging a considerable number of girls to choose such fields. Each year BAAU organizes several events or meetings with schools in order to motivate girls to study IT, Math, Computer Science. Not only career service employees are involved in such events, but also BAAU invites successful women in those spheres by which a number of girls selecting these areas are increasing year by year.
A Comprehensive Strategy to Promote Inclusivity in Underrepresented Domains:
Baku Eurasian University is dedicated to promoting a diverse and inclusive academic setting where all individuals can succeed. We acknowledge that women are still lacking representation in specific fields like Mathematics, Information Technology, and Computer Science, and we are proactively working to alter this situation.
Recruitment Actions for Underrepresented Groups
To enhance our academic community and advance diversity and inclusivity, our university actively seeks programs to hire faculty, staff, and students from underrepresented groups. To guarantee that people from all backgrounds have equitable access to opportunities at all levels, we carry out focused outreach, collaborations, and support initiatives. Our dedication to fostering an inventive, inclusive atmosphere that represents society at large is in line with these initiatives.
