On April 19, 2025, the "EduHack 2025: Innovating the Future of Learning" hackathon officially kicked off, jointly organized by Baku Eurasian University (BAAU), the Youth Foundation of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Niğde Ömer Halisdemir University (NOHU), Melhem International Hospital, the Azerbaijan Student Youth Organizations’ Union (ASYOU - NGO), and the Turkey-Azerbaijan University (TAU). The event, held at the Baku Congress Center, brought together representatives of the Youth Foundation, ASYOU, and Melhem Hospital, as well as academic and administrative staff members and students from BAAU, NOHU, and TAU.
The opening speech was delivered by Assoc. Prof. Sayavush Gasimov, Rector of BAAU. He expressed his gratitude to all partners for their cooperation in organizing the event and emphasized that this hackathon serves as a significant platform for students to showcase their skills and competencies. Highlighting the transition from traditional to innovative learning methods, the rector expressed confidence that young participants would present bright ideas in this direction. He also noted that 12 teams from 9 higher education institutions in Azerbaijan had qualified to take part in the hackathon and wished them success.
Next, Qadir Khalilov, Executive Director of the Youth Foundation, addressed the audience, welcoming the participants and emphasizing the state’s continuous care and attention toward youth. He thanked the organizing partners and underlined the importance of the hackathon as a meaningful step in promoting innovation in education and recognizing the role of young people as key drivers of this progress.
Prof. Dr. Hasan Uslu, Rector of NOHU, also delivered a speech, expressing his satisfaction with participating in such an event that allows students to demonstrate their knowledge and skills. He emphasized that they are pioneers of innovative projects supported by the Turkish government and expressed readiness to support the teams in further developing their projects.
Prof. Vilayet Valiyev, Acting Rector of TAU, highlighted the importance of expanding cooperation between Türkiye and Azerbaijan in the field of education. He praised the joint organization of the hackathon as a commendable initiative reflecting the partnership between the two brotherly countries. Stressing the significance of developing students’ knowledge and skills through innovative approaches, Prof. Valiyev also elaborated on TAU’s role as an umbrella university fostering educational collaboration between the two nations.
In her speech, Sevda Alizade, Executive Director of Melhem International Hospital, expressed satisfaction with supporting the hackathon, where young people present innovative solutions in education. She emphasized the hospital’s openness to new and innovative ideas, the use of modern technologies, and the creation of opportunities for the professional growth of young specialists.
The final opening speech was delivered by Rashad Zeynalov, Chairman of ASYOU, who noted the organization’s leading role in implementing youth policy in Azerbaijan and its active participation as a partner in various national events. He expressed his pleasure in cooperating with BAAU in organizing this hackathon and wished the participants success.
Following the opening speeches, presentation videos introducing BAAU and Melhem International Hospital were shown. Afterwards, Dr. Rıfat Battaloğlu, Director General of NOHU Technopark, and Rəvanə Goyushlu, Head of the Startup and Incubation Center at Odlar Yurdu University, delivered keynote speeches.
The event included a musical intermission performed by students of the Azerbaijan National Conservatory, followed by a group photo session.
After the official ceremony, the hackathon officially began, and students started working on practical tasks addressing challenges related to the development of education. The hackathon will continue on April 20 at the BAAU Conference Hall, where participants will present their projects, after which the best teams will be evaluated and awarded.
