Students of Baku Eurasian University (BAAU) went on an excursion to the Gobustan State Historical and Artistic Reserve. The trip was organized under the supervision of the lecturers of the Department of Regional Studies and Humanities — Aygun Miriyeva, Jale Ismayilova, and Meleyke Adigozelova.
Students from the programs Regional Studies (USA and Canada), Regional Studies (European Countries), Philology (Azerbaijani Language and Literature), Philology (English Language and Literature), Translation (English Language), and International Relations took part in the excursion. They learned about the historical, cultural, and mythological significance of the Gobustan rock carvings, as well as their connection with the traditions of Novruz.
During the visit, students became acquainted with the ancient petroglyphs and discussed the historical roots of the Yalli dance, one of the symbols of the Novruz celebration. As part of the event, they also participated in various activities reflecting national traditions, such as decorating the Novruz “khoncha” (festive tray), egg tapping contests, and a Novruz-themed knowledge quiz.
This excursion also contributed to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by enhancing students’ understanding of cultural heritage and promoting its preservation.
