Seminar was held at BAAU Within the Framework of “SDG Week”

From April 29 to May 5, 2025, Baku Eurasian University (BAAU) is hosting “SDG Week” dedicated to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The event is organized by the "SDG’s for Youth" club operating under the BAAU Student Youth Organization. Throughout the week, various seminars, discussions, and academic activities aligned with the SDGs are being held.

The week was inaugurated on April 29 with a seminar titled “For the Cleanliness of the Caspian”, dedicated to the Sustainable Development Goal 14: “Life Below Water”, focusing on the protection of marine ecosystems. The seminar aimed to raise awareness about the ecological importance of the Caspian Sea, its marine biodiversity, and the threats posed by pollution, overfishing, and degradation of natural habitat

At the opening ceremony, Associate Professor Sevda Rzayeva, BAAU Vice-Rector for International Relations, emphasized the significance of SDG 14 in the context of global sustainability, underlining the university’s commitment to conserving aquatic ecosystems, promoting ocean literacy, and fostering responsible maritime practices through education and research.

Following the opening remarks, the seminar continued with presentations by a range of distinguished speakers in line with the event’s program. Among the presenters were: Sevda Mammadova, Head of the Human Resources Department at “Azerbaijan Caspian Shipping Company” CJSC; Associate Professor Konul Gafarbeyli, Head of the Agroecology and Land Evaluation Laboratory of the Institute of Soil Science and Agrochemistry under ARETN.

Saida Yusifova, senior lecturer of the Department of Foreign Languages and Literature at BAAU along with fellow senior lecturers Nargiz Isgandarova and Matanat Mammadova explored the impact of human activity on marine environments, calling for policies that support the traditional use and sustainable management of fish stocks.

In addition, students of Faculty of Philology at BAAU Ulviyya Asadova, Aytan Guliyeva, Ziya Azizova, Sabina Hasanova, and Zeyd Abdulla delivered insightful presentations on the topic.

“SDG Week” at BAAU aims to strengthen the integration of sustainable development principles into the university’s educational and research processes.
