On April 25, 2025, Baku Eurasian University (BAAU), in collaboration with the Western Azerbaijan Community (NGO), organized a roundtable discussion on “Return to Western Azerbaijan – Restoration of Local Residents’ Rights”. The event was attended by BAAU faculty members and students.
Prior to the event, Qaya Mammadov, Member of the National Assembly and Vice-Chair of the Board of the Western Azerbaijan Community, met with Associate Professor Sayavush Gasimov, Rector of BAAU. During the meeting, they discussed Western Azerbaijan issues, academic collaboration, and initiatives to raise awareness among youth.
The opening speech at the roundtable was delivered by Shafahat Aliyev, Advisor to the Rector of BAAU. He highlighted that the main purpose of the event was to discuss the restoration of the historical and legal rights of Azerbaijanis deported from Western Azerbaijan, their return to their native lands, and to present scientific-theoretical approaches and proposals in this regard.
In his address, Qaya Mammadov spoke about the activities of the Community, the strategic goals set by the President, and the role of youth in conveying the truths about Karabakh and Western Azerbaijan to the world. He emphasized that the Community actively works to protect the rights of Azerbaijanis living in their historical lands and preserve their cultural heritage.
Following the opening, BAAU faculty members presented reports in accordance with the roundtable program.
The roundtable aligns with SDG 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions) by addressing legal rights and historical justice, SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities) by focusing on the protection of displaced communities and their inclusion, and SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities) by promoting the restoration and development of communities in their historical lands.
