The First Summit of Turkic Women Parliamentarians, themed “Education, Culture, and Entrepreneurship,” was held in Lefkoşa, the capital of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC).
The international event brought together 41 participants from 9 countries, including Professor Gulzar Ibrahimova, Vice-Rector for Scientific Affairs at Baku Eurasian University (BAAU).
The opening ceremony took place at the TRNC Parliament and featured speeches by Tamam Jafarova, Member of the Parliament of Azerbaijan and Chair of the TURKPA Women Parliamentarians Group; Zeynep Yıldız, Member of the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye and third-term Chair of the TURKPA Women Group; Mehmet Süreyya Er, Secretary-General of TURKPA; Celile Eren Ökten, Deputy Minister of National Education of Türkiye; and Seral Fırat, Secretary-General of the TRNC Parliament.
The Summit continued with three thematic panels — “Education,” “Culture,” and “Entrepreneurship” — where women parliamentarians and scholars from the Turkic world exchanged ideas and experiences.
In her speech, Professor Gulzar Ibrahimova described the gathering of Turkic women parliamentarians in this format as a historic event, emphasizing that the discussions held could lay the foundation for future collaborative projects across the Turkic states.
Professor Ibrahimova also addressed key societal challenges such as the weakening of the family institution, marital instability, communication barriers among Turkic-speaking nations, and the difficulties faced by Turkic communities living in other states. She highlighted the Summit’s role in strengthening unity and cooperation across the Turkic world.
On the following day, the members of the TURKPA women’s delegation were received by TRNC Minister of Foreign Affairs Tahsin Ertuğruloğlu, Speaker of the Parliament Ziya Öztürkler, and President Ersin Tatar.
