An awareness-raising meeting titled “In the Footsteps of the Green Victory” was held at Baku Eurasian University (BAAU), organized by the “SDGs for Youth” Club operating under the university’s Student Youth Organization (SYO). The event was dedicated to the 8th of November – Victory Day, and to the upcoming 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29).

The primary aim of the event was to highlight the enduring significance of Victory Day in the collective national pride of Azerbaijan, to commemorate this historic triumph in a meaningful way among Azerbaijani youth, and to draw attention to pressing global issues such as climate change and sustainable development.

The program began with reflections on the historic victory achieved during Azerbaijan’s 44-day Patriotic War, emphasizing how this momentous achievement symbolizes the resilience, unity, and determination of the Azerbaijani people. Participants honored the memory of the fallen with deep respect and acknowledged November 8 as a source of immense national pride. It was emphasized that commemorating this day instills in young people a strong sense of patriotism and national identity.

The second part of the meeting focused on COP29 and the international community’s efforts to combat climate change. Discussions addressed the urgent challenges of climate impacts, the increasing threat of global warming, and the necessity of transitioning to low-carbon and carbon-neutral economies. Azerbaijan’s role and contributions toward climate action, including its commitment to the Paris Agreement, were also highlighted.

Through these discussions, the importance of youth engagement in building a climate-resilient, sustainable, and climate-just future was underlined. The event aimed to empower students with a deeper understanding of their responsibilities in promoting climate change mitigation, supporting climate solutions, and safeguarding the planet for future generations.
